INSIDE THE MILF

After their camps was dismantled during the 'all-out war' in 2000, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) has shifted from conventional warrare to guerilla warfare.

The MILF, the biggest separtist movement in southern Philippines, has been fighting for an independent Islamic state since it broke up from Nur Misuari-led Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) in 1977.

Salamat Hashim, an Islamic scholar, led the MILF until his death in 2003. Al Hadj Murad Ibrahim, formerly the Front's military chief, assumed the leadership up to this day.

These images were taken inside their 'operational territory' between the boundary of Maguindanao and North Cotabato.
