Datu Piang

While at least 41, 000 evacuees are languishing at the different evacuation centers in the town proper of Datu Piang, Maguindanao, life goes for the residents of this wartorn town. Military offensives continue against members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) hiding in the marshy portions of this town.

Hostilities between the government forces and MILF guerillas erupted last month following the aborted signing of the Memorandom of Agreement on Ancestral Domain in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on August 5. The military claimed that MILF guerrillas led by Ameril Umbra Kato attacked severl villages in neighboring towns of Aleosan and Midsayap, North Cotabato. The fighting escalated and spilled to other towns in Maguindanao and North Cotabato.
